This week on Talk Beauty, Got Beauty Brand Ambassador and SLC Sweetheart Deena Marie talks about dealing with dry winter skin, and how her recent facial turned it all around.
When winter rolls around each year, I find myself dreading what it’s going to mean for my skin. Utah weather is rough, and I know I’m going to have to work extra hard to fight against the dryness. To make it a little more bearable, I recently went into Got Beauty for a little pampering and had a European facial with Michelle. I’m in the midst of planning for the arrival of my first baby, and I was reminded how important self-care is! It’s easy to forget about myself in the shuffle of preparation for him. Michelle was fantastic. Not only was the experience luxurious, but we talked skincare as well. She had some great advice for some of the small breakouts I was experiencing, and performed extractions, clearing up nearly half of my breakouts.
I ended up taking home three products that she recommended, and nearly a month later, I couldn’t be happier with the results. First up is the Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant that I’m now using every morning. Not only do I feel it’s essential during winter, but year round, too. It’s a rice-based powder that activates when it comes into contact with water, and releases papain, salicylic acid, and rice enzymes that micro-exfoliate dead cells. I love how clean my skin feels after, I know it’s helping to fight dull winter skin. It’s also gentle enough that it doesn’t leave my sensitive skin red or sore after.
At night I’m using a new brand for acne that’s safe during pregnancy by GlyMed Plus. It’s the Serious Action Skin Wash. This is a powerful acne facial wash formulated with 2.5% benzoyl peroxide to thoroughly cleanse skin and reduce acne lesions by wiping out the bacteria that causes them to spread. This one has kept my small breakouts under control, but every so often I give myself a day off because it is powerful.
The last of my new products is the GlyMed Plus Oxygen Treatment Cream. I’m incredibly picky about moisturizers, especially during a Utah winter. I feel like so few do the job, so I was skeptical. This one is light, yet a few drops go a long way. I use it in the morning after I’ve washed and exfoliated before I start my makeup. It’s been the only moisturizer I’ve needed now for weeks. I highly recommend a trip in to consult with an expert, and to get a few products tailored for you for both this winter, and year round.
