How To Blow Dry Your Hair Like A Pro

windy-smiling-sadieDSC_1807

Mastering the perfect blow dry is no easy feat, and more often than not the least fun portion of styling your hair. After all, sitting upside down holding a blow dryer can feel quite tedious after 30 minutes, especially when your hair ends up looking like you were just struck by lightning. Our stylists have spent a great deal of time perfecting their technique, and we've 'taste tested' tons of pro styling products to bring you our tried and true tips and tricks for achieving a lasting blow out. If you're not getting the most out of your hair dryer, try one of our stylist-certified techniques to avoid feeling hot and bothered every time you wash your hair.

If You Want Beach Waves...

If you're going for a natural-looking beach wave, we recommend going Bumble. Start out by spraying damp hair with the Bumble Prep Spray, then adding the Bumble Curl Conscious Defining Cream. Then while you're blow drying, crunch your hair with your hands to keep it from drying straight. Once you're finished, spray in a bit of Bumble Surf Spray to perfect the beachy look. As an alternative, Got Beauty Creative Director Jenevieve recommends using a Dry Shampoo on top and Dry Conditioner on the ends for a more polished look.

If You Want Pin Straight Hair...

It's always easier to start with a straightening shampoo and conditioner (again, Bumble has a great Straight line). As soon as you get out of the shower, spray in a leave-in conditioner and brush out any tangles. A paddle brush or a wet brush is a great choice for doing your own hair, especially when executing straight styles. Section off your hair and apply a smoothing serum. Keep the serum 3 inches away from your scalp unless you have super curly hair, otherwise it will become heavy. Got Beauty Stylist Alisia highly recommends the Bumble Hairdresser's Invisible Oil Primer, it is a great heat and color protectant and will safeguard your hair for over 20 passes with a hot tool. Direct your blow dryer down towards your hair, and if you are using a paddle brush as opposed to a round brush, be careful not to bend the hair as you blow dry, or you may get creases instead of perfectly smooth hair. Once the hair is dry, use a flat iron if necessary to get it extra super straight.

If You Want More Volume...

To get the best results, start off with a great Volumizing Shampo and Conditioner. Next, apply a root lifting product. One of our more popular root lift sprays is Tri Body Infusion; it's a light mist, it's not stiff, and it doesn't have so much hold that it weighs down fine hair. Spray only and the roots, holding the can about 6" away from your hair. Next, we recommend grabbing a ginormous round brush (the bigger the brush, the bigger the hair). When blow drying, dry the hair in the opposite direction in which the hair naturally lies so that it doesn't lie flat when it's dry. Once the hair is dry, add a little bit of a hair oil to get rid of any unwanted frizz.

If You Want The Most Out Of Your Natural Curls...

Again, first things first, blow drying curly hair is much easier with the help of a curl-enhancing shampoo and conditioner (such as the Curvaceous line by Redken). Once you're out of the shower, throw in the curl creme of your choice. We highly recommend using a diffuser blow dryer add-on when drying curly hair, especially if you have a tendency to blow dry a little too hard; you want to enhance curl, without adding frizz As always, if you have any unwanted frizz, add a little bit of smoothing oil or spray to your ends.
