As 2018 comes to an end, thoughts of our most and least favorites drift through our heads in a steady reflection of the past 12 months. When it comes to beauty products, the memories are many and at the same time so subtle; after all, it's easy to forget your favorite hairspray behind that AMAZING hairdo you had at your best friend's wedding, or the mascara you wear each day that makes your eyes really pop. There were a few that stood out to us that we felt were worthy of a mention - especially since some folks are in need of a recommendation or two. In our humble opinion, here are the best beauty products from 2018 that made the cut (and what we think will be sticking around for a while).
As we get older, the appeal of a giant bag of trick or treat candy starts to lose its appeal (especially if you are like me and too much sugar makes your skin hate you). Instead of wearing a stinky latex monster mask, I'd rather opt for a pore refining charcoal mask. It just so happens, your favorite Sugarhouse day spa has a remedy for those who feel they are outgrowing Halloween: Trick Or Treat Yourself! Yes, friends - cozy up on this fall eve with your favorite scents and pamper yourself with some of our favorite luxury items. Put your mask on, kick up your feet, and turn on the bath water - we promise you'll feel like a kid on Halloween, with all the treats and no tricks.
An anthropological phenomenon of the 21st century, we really have no idea how or where this originated from, but I've found myself dawning this look frequently in the fall months because, hey, "The Basic" look is COMFY! Who doesn't love the smell of pumpkin spice on a crisp autumn morning and a big cozy sweater paired with cute boots? Every fall without fail, the iconic 'lewk' resurfaces, it's clear that the "basic" isn't going anywhere. With this notion, I exclaim: If you can't beat em' join em'. This is your basic girl's guide to all things autumn, keeping you cozy and cute during your favorite season!
By this time, I'm sure you've been hearing these three letters buzzing around your social media feed. What's the deal with hemp and CBD, anyway? What is it? What does it do? THC is illegal (in some places) and CBD is legal, so what's the difference? I am fascinated by holistic and naturally sustainable beauty alternatives, so of course I had to dive in and do some research. If you're curious about this new game-changing super oil then stay tuned, because according to what I learned, it's more than a passing beauty/health trend.
Who doesn't love a healthy glow? Glamglow has released a new GlowPowder Highlighter palette that is infused with Hyaluronic Acid, Brazilian golden clay, golden gemstones, and a TEAOXI® Vitalflower Complex. The Hyaluronic Acid works to blur imperfections while the gemstones illuminate the skin, giving you flawless illumination without feeling heavy on the skin or accentuating pores (as someone with oily skin, I struggle with this a lot, especially with highlighters). This palette is also infused with the signature Glamglow scent, so you can get your glow on and smell great! Come hangout with me as I unbox this brand new Glamglow product and give you a real-time look at how it works!
About two years ago, I decided to take the dive and do an icy silver pixie cut. I loved it, truly. But I am constantly trying to change up my style, and unfortunately with hair, its not so easy to bounce back and forth from 12 inches of long locks, to 2" messy spikes and a completely shaved undercut. (unless you've got some extra cash flow for hair extensions). With my recent move to Salt Lake City 6 months ago, I decided it was time to finally commit to growing my hair back. I would endure the awkward mullet, the baby 1" point tail, half of my head being uneven due to the undercut, the whole journey of growing a pixie, in my opinion, was NOT glamorous. Not to mention the breakage I had from damage that was preventing strength in my hair follicles. Cue my saviors: Sugarbear Hair Vitamins and Olaplex.
We've all heard it time and time again: "you must wear sunscreen everyday!" The beauty gods will harp on this until the cows come home, but the truth is, it's actually REALLY GOOD advice. A harsh reality is that 90% of all skin aging is caused by sun exposure. Sunscreen can be a pain, and the typically thick goopy stuff you've grown up with clogs your pores just by looking at it. But it's 2018 ladies (and gentleman) and the realm of sunscreen has become far more advanced than you're used to. Many cosmetics and CC creams have sunscreen built in, so there's no excuse to not protect the largest organ in our body that just so happens to be exposed to the sun every single day. If you're going to be wearing makeup anyway, why not go the extra preventative mile and cut down on aging from sun exposure while you're at it!
