It can strike at any time - midway through a workday, a conversation or a manicure. For one reason or another, you look down at your fingers and - gasp - nails peeling, badly. It's a common issue that can happen to almost anyone, regardless of skin type, genetics, health, you name it. The good news is that the solution is pretty straightforward...IF you're willing to be persistent with your nailcare. We're going to assume you are, because who wants splitting, peeling nails?
The less-than-fun news is that there isn’t really a true overnight fix that will get your nails looking healthier instantly. A good manicure will always cover it up, a GREAT manicure will even reduce peeling a tiny bit by buffing it out. Unfortunately, only time, technique and delicate care will truly get your nails strong and healthy again (and, of course, the miraculous Nailtiques Formula 2, which we'll get to later).
So what is the cause of nails peeling and splitting? Depends on Y-O-U. Damage to the nail itself can cause peeling, which can happen from prolonged exposure to hot water from doing dishes or washing your hands (we’re looking at you, servers). Acrylic nails can significantly reduce the strength of your nails if you keep them on regularly.
Sometimes splitting, peeling nails can be a result of something going on internally. Most of the time, this just means you’re missing a few vitamins in your diet, and maybe even not drinking enough water. In our humble experience, a multivitamin that includes biotin, folate and iron will improve not only the appearance of your nails, but also your skin and hair.
If you can’t figure out if your nail woes are a result of external or internal issues, one way to tell is by comparing your fingers to your toenails. If your fingernails are peeling but your toenails aren’t, you can probably assume that it’s due to external causes. If, however, both are peeling, then that’s a sign there’s something going on internally.
To prevent it from happening again, there are a few things you can do. However, we're going to recommend again that first and foremost, you try the Nailtiques Formula 2 and apply every single day. This is a game changer, one that will aid in appearance and health regardless of internal and external causes.
A few others suggestions that might help? Take breaks from acrylic and gel nails every so often (or avoid them altogether for a while if you can). Try to keep your nail shape rounded rather than sharp to prevent snagging and splitting. As always, moisturize your hands like crazy, and again, vitamins with iron, folate and biotin will make them much stronger. If you suffer from dry cuticles on top of splitting nails, applying Earthly Body Miracle Oil from once a day is going to make your hands and nails both super soft and super strong.
