Even more charming is the fact that each cookie has her own special pin-up name and face like Penelope, Noelle or Billie Ann. We've been admirers of Tami and RubySnap for some time. A few of our own Got Beauty girls have been featured pin-ups at her shop on more than one occasion. But only last week did we have the pleasure of meeting two of Tami's sweet, charming daughters Maris and Gabby and getting a little more acquainted with Tami's Momshell side. We can tell you that Tami appears to have nothing but dedication and fierce love when it comes to her kiddos and that she deftly balances wit, grace and an unbelievable devotion to her role as a Mom with a breathlessly exponential rise to stardom as a cookie-crafter. For working Mama's everywhere, Tami is a humble example of balance and grace. Here's what she had to say:
What is motherhood to you in one word?
What gave you the idea of starting your own cookie store?
I think originally I just wanted to be an impressive wife and later it evolved into being the best gift giver on the block at Christmas. I was an architectural designer for 15 years and tired of giving the same gifts so I would make cookies and package them in such a way so they wouldn't know they were from home. I was an avid cyclist for years but I was always notoriously chubby, that's just how I am. I just decided if I was going to put all the time and energy into a good workout, whatever I put in my mouth better be worth it. I love the wow factor so I created things that I like specifically for my belly. Everything I make is fresh. Fresh fruits, fresh veggies, fresh nuts, and they are all natural. No shortening, preservatives or anything artificial. I eventually got burned out on being a designer and I knew I liked what I made so I introduced it to the public to see if they liked it too. It took off and has just been growing ever since.
Billie Ann, this month's cookie, is a coconut carrot curry with
coconut mascarpone frosting and toasted coconut.
Josephine is coffee Kahlua tiramisu.
Penelope is peanut butter dipped in chocolate.
Noelle is a sweet potato maple with chocolate and pecans.
Memphis is a fresh raspberry cookie that's really delicious.
I'm making one with fresh grated beets today. Fresh beet, pineapple and agave. That one doesn't have a name just yet.
All-time favorite actresses?
Favorite memory as a mother?
Any time my kids get together and laugh. They are all really good friends.
What's a typical day like for you?
I love mornings! Ideally, I wake up at 5:50 am because I like to get in a good workout. I'm to work by 9. At work, I like to focus on one thing at a time which can be a bit of a challenge at times. I leave by 2:30 to pick up my daughters from school and I'm a stay-at-home Mom after that. In the beginning it was 5 am to 10 pm every day because it was up to me to make everything happen. I was the baker, the cashier, the dough-maker…everything. It wasn't until recently that I got enough help for my days to become more balanced. Now I get to have the best of both worlds.
What's your daily beauty routine?
I like to keep my beauty routine simple. I shower and shave daily. I dry and style my hair daily. I use heavy moisturizer and very little makeup. I'm a bit of a tomboy but I tell my girls a beautiful tomboy is the best kind of girl.
A #1, Water! I love moisturizer. I use heavy eye creams at night. Primarily I moisturize eyes and lips. I use a lot of lotion in general. Water, water, water, I drink tons of water. I wear zinc everyday to protect my skin from dark tanning and I avoid caffeine as much as possible.
Ice Cream. My favorite flavors are coffee and rum raisin.
Come what may and love it.
Best vacation ever?
Bali. I try to go every two years and I travel with my daughters and friend, 10 to 12 women. It's just the best indulgence ever. It's a simple, humble culture and at the same time you can enjoy adventure, luxury and the most amazing food. The culture is spiritual and family oriented.
Where do you find inspiration?
Usually from travel. If I'm really happy, I get flooded with ideas. One time I was eating a dish called Nasi Champur which is an Indonesian dish I had in Bali. It's a spicy curry tempeh with fresh veggies. That's where I got the idea for Billie Anne which is a coconut curry cookie.
Any advice for moms to be?
